Position

The Vice President of Tax will be responsible for the overall state & federal levels tax function. Leads initiatives/projects through research and counsel in areas such as reporting, planning, policy initiatives, transactions and tax examinations. Ensures tax compliance is completed timely and in accordance with applicable laws and tax liabilities are minimized to the extent possible. Develops and manages relationships with Finance, Accounting and Legal, liaise with counterparts at Brookfield Properties and outside service providers and governmental agencies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison to the company’s independent accounting firm to coordinate the preparation and filing of income tax returns, including federal, state and local and foreign tax returns
  • Manage the preparation of tax projections and payment of quarterly tax estimates.
  • Responsible for delivery of timely tax accounting information for quarterly/annual financial reporting
  • Responsible for accurate tax compliance and related reporting for relevant private fund and balance sheet assets and structures
  • Coordinate with Rouse corporate Legal & Finance teams in evaluating significant transactions in which the company enters into or contemplates, including property acquisitions & dispositions.
  • Liaise with the Brookfield Property Group tax team in NYC as needed
  • Review of portfolio tax basis schedules
  • Develop and maintain Rouse tax risk management and documentation policies

Experience and Skills:

Requirements

  • 10+ Years of Experience (preferably Big 4 accounting firms or equivalent industry experience); Bachelor’s Degree, CPA or graduate degree in finance/taxation
  • Strong analytical and tax technical abilities in domestic real estate tax areas and REITs
  • Experience working on complex transactions and dealing with tax issues relevant to acquisitions and dispositions of real estate
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to manage several large complex projects at once
  • Experience managing outside advisors and ability to delegate tasks as appropriate
  • Solid analytical/logical mindset and attention to detail; strong written and verbal skills; successfully manages internal and external relationships
  • Self-start and self-motivated; ability to work both autonomously and in a team setting and under tight time constraints to meet deadlines
  • Advanced MS Office Excel to an advanced level
  • Ability to liaise in a collaborative manner with both internal and external parties.
